Lyla Here

Hi everybody!
My mom hasn't blogged anything in a couple weeks.
So, I thought I would help her out and give a quick update.

I started making this face.
I don't know why, but everybody thinks it's
the greatest thing when I do it.

I have also been making this face in my sleep.
I hate it when my mom takes my picture when I'm sleeping though.
Hello mom...bed head? milk all over my face? ew.

I am sleeping in my own room nowadays. I really love my crib.
But sometimes I still wake up in the middle of the night and miss my mom,
so she brings me into bed with her.

Hey look, I grew an afro! groovy!
This was my uncle Jake's idea.
He is such a funny guy!

My great aunt Kari bought this outfit for me,
and I am excited because it finally fits me.
My mom is sad because some of my clothes are getting too tight,
but I think it's sooo awesome!

I will be three months old soon.
I'm just waiting for the right moment to show
my mom and dad that I can roll over.
When I do, I'm sure my silly mom will blog all about it.
Bye Bye!

Bath, Book, & Bed

This girl loves her bath.
She has since day one and I hope it never changes.
Her splashing skills are pretty advanced for her age...I'm impressed.

Reading books to Lyla is one of the things I said I would always do on a daily basis.
Well, I soon realized that reading to a newborn was nearly useless...
her vision wasn't developed enough for her to be interested in the pages,
and if she wasn't eating or sleeping, she was usually crying.
Recently, Lyla has taken more of an interest in her surroundings and
it seems there is some clarity to her once very blurry vision.
I decided it was time to give story time another try.

Success! She loved it!
I read the book to her three times in a row because she was so content.
Her eyes bounced around with each passing page.
I really do think she was fascinated by it all.
Story time will now become a part of our regular routine.
Hooray!

Lastly, It has only been two weeks since we started putting Lyla in her crib.
Nonetheless, bedtime is becoming something I look forward to every evening.
It is the most peaceful part of my day.
At times, motherhood feels very hectic and out of control,
but this is when Lyla makes me feel like I'm meant to be a mom.
This is when she makes me feel like I'm the best mom in the world.

Once I get Lyla changed into her jammies and transitioned into a calm state,
I turn on her wall light and the ocean sounds.
We sit down in the rocking chair and she slowly drifts off to sleep.
It gives me a few minutes to relax, reflect on my day,
stare at my baby girl, and appreciate being a mommy.

It makes me sad that this stage won't last forever,
because I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

Shots Shots Shots Shots

2 Month Doctor Visit

Weight: 10 lbs 4 ozs, 35th percintile
Height: 23 1/4 inches, 80th percintile
Head: 15 3/4 inches, 95th percintle

Sooo, basically she is tall and skinny with a big ol' noggin.

She also had her first real shots at this doctor visit.
I didn't even consider that I might cry for this tortuous event.
Oh boy, as soon as the first needle went in and Lyla started screaming,
big crocodile tears started rolling down my cheeks.
I'm sure the nurse found us amusing.

at first she was like....
"okay, mom. I am so ready."

then she was like....
"ahhh, I can't believe you let them do that to me!"

Two Months Old

Happy Two Months Baby Lyla!
I can't believe how much you have grown and changed in just two short months.
With each new development you make, you continue to surprise me.
Thanks for bringing a smile to my face every single day.
Mommy and daddy love you so much!

I feel that the little girl grew up just a little this weekend,
and this is why....

Lyla didn't sleep solo very well at first, so
I got into the habit of just bringing her in bed with us.
snuggle snuggle snuggle & she would fall sound asleep.
She has developed such a good routine that I suspected
she might be ready to make the transition to her crib.
Well, on Saturday night we gave it a try.
I laid in bed with the baby monitor up to my ear,
waiting for her to start wailing and it never happened.
I was so very sad, yet so very proud of my baby girl.
I thought the baby was supposed to get
separation anxiety, not the momma!
I guess I will have to start cuddling Kirk again....

Lyla's second big milestone this weekend was her baby blessing.
I was halfway expecting Lyla to cry during her blessing,
only because that would be my luck & she always tends to cry at the worst times.
I took a deep breath as I handed the fussing baby to her grandpa,
but to my surprise the fussing stopped immediately when the blessing started.
And according to grandpa, as soon as he began to speak,
Lyla looked at him right in eyes and gave him a big happy smile.
I think that really says something special about her blessing.
I think she knew it was her moment, and for that moment
she knew it was important for her to be a nice girl.
Babies are so much smarter than we know.
Lyla is the smartest though, of course!

Lyla received the royalty treatment all day long, she is definitely a princess.
below are some pictures documenting her big day...

Usually I think it's just silly for babies to wear shoes,
but I wanted her to look extra fancy today!

All (-2) of Lyla's great-grandparents.

sleeping like a baby...

Ashton, just practicing.

HA. It looks like we have no idea what we're doing....

Cameron, just practicing for much much later in life.

Oh, and she wore a very fancy blessing dress but I failed at taking any pictures of her in it.
We will have a dress up day sometime soon...
